| NC members raise ruckus in LC on degree college issue | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 10 The Legislative Council today witnessed uproarious scenes during the question hour when opposition members were not satisfied with the reply given to the question, tabled by Mohd. Sharief Niaz, on steps Government had initiated for controlling inflation in the prices of essential commodities. Consumer Affairs Minister, Taj Mohiuddin, said that the rise in the prices of various commodities was governed by the price level that existed in the country. Only the price structure of vegetables, milk and milk products could be taken care of by the state agencies. He, however, stated that the concerned department had no sufficient staff to visit shop after shop and monitor the price level. The National Conference members, including Devinder Singh Rana, T. S. Wazir, Sakina Itoo, Farida Mir of Congress and MohammedYusuf Teng of PP, protested against the unsatisfactory reply of the Minister. The Minister requested the protesting members to listen to his reply first. The irate members refused to budge and kept on protesting while standing on their feet. Chairman of the Council, Ghulam Nabi Lone, intervened and suggested to the members not to waste time of the House and give the Minister time to speak on the issue. The members did not relent and went on shouting against the Government. The Chairman ignored their protests and moved to the next question. On this, the NC members staged a protest walk out. Later also, the NC members raised a hue and cry while blaming the Minister for giving unsatisfactory reply to the question, asked by Bilal Ahmed Lodhi, seeking to know what criteria the Government had adopted in selecting places for the opening of degree colleges. G. S. Charak Education Minister said that every proposal was considered on merits and decisions are generally need based. But when he said that there was no proposal for opening degree colleges at Chrar-i-Sharief, Chadoora and Magam, NC members protested accusing Government of not adopting proper criteria. Even the Chairman asked Chark to spell out the criteria for selecting places for opening of degree colleges. Surprisingly, a PDP member, Murtaza Ahmed Khan criticized the Minister for giving a long speech without specifying the criteria. The NC members shouted slogans “Majooda sarkar hai hai.” Charak shot back saying that the opposition members did not want to listen to the replies and they were simply wasting the time of the House. On the suggestion of the Chairman, Charak agreed to consider the demand of the members for opening for opening of colleges at Magam, Charat-i-Sharief and Chadoora . |
