| Snow, rain will improve water level, power generation: Government. | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Jan 10 With continued wet spell from last few days, Valley's power and water crisis is going to end soon, government says. "The rains and snow are beneficial for us. It will enhance our water quantity, which intern will boast power generation," said Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister, Dilawar Mir. He added that the rains will reactivate natural water resources and hence will prove helpful to deal with the major water supplying crisis which has caused problems across the valley. "We should pray for more rains," he added. The Minister added that in many areas water supplying units had stopped functioning due to scarcity of water in the reservoirs. "Now as the water condition will improve the units would be made functional again. It will help us to a great extent to address grievance of people that exists there from months together," Mir said. Besides, PHE department, the officials of PDD are jubilant over to prevailing climatic situations. "Definitely, rain and snow will improve the power scenario in valley," chief engineer, Power Development Department (PDD), Khwaja Nissar Ahamad said. "The heavy downpours and snow has increased the water discharge in the lower Jehlum. Thus our self generation of power will improve to a good deal and it would automatically help us in reducing the power crisis in the state". He said present rains will also increase the power generation of Northern grid which draws much of its power from generation units located in lower Himalayas like Himachal and Uttranchal. "As they would receive more power from their generation units, it would subsequently increase our share. So it will also help us somehow to improve the power situation in valley," Ahmad said. |
