| State Heros Cup: Akali Kour Singh Club in final of hockey | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 11 Akali Kour Singh Club today entered the final of State Heros Cup hockey tournament beating University of Jammu XI 4-3 in the semi-finals played today at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today. Both sides made attacks and counter attacks in the 70-minute long full of events game. Since it was a semi-final and a close contest was expected, a good number of hockey lovers had gathered at the Hakhu Stadium to witness the match. Though JU XI took the first lead with Motinder Pal Singh netting the ball in the 13th minute, yet Akali Kour Singh Club managed win to confirm their berth in the final. The lead taken by JU XI was equalized by Sukhwinder scoring in the 16th minute on a penalty corner. At the end of the first half, the score was tied at 2-2. Narinder Singh (20th) scored for Akali Kour Singh Club while Harwinder Pal Singh (26th) equalized the score. After the breather, JU XI went a head making it a 3-2 with Mukesh Kumar striking in the 49th minute. However, the lead short lived with Manjit Singh sounding the board in the 53rd minute to level the score 3-3. Finding the score tied at 3-3, both sides made all out efforts to take the lead. But at the end, it was Akali Kour Singh Club that managed to score in the 58th minute through Gurmeet Singh. In the process both sides got four penalty corners each. Today’s semi-final was officiated by Karanjit Singh, Parminder Singh and Dinesh Kumar. The second semi-final between Khalsa Club and Zorawar Club shall be played tomorrow at 2.30 pm. |
