Jammu, Aug 24 Two militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen, including a self-styled district commander, were today shot dead by security forces in Doda district, police said.
Acting on a tip off, a joint team of police and Rashtriya Rifle troops launched an operation in Kalihand village in Doda district last night and in the subsequent gunbattle shot dead two ultras in wee hours today, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Manohar Singh told PTI.
He said the slain ultras, belonging to HM outfit, have been identified as Kuldeep Kumar Sharma alias Kamran and Khalid Kashmiri.
Sharma had converted to Islam and joined militancy in 1998 and was active since then. He was presently acting as District Commander of HM outfit in Doda, Singh added. |
