Govt. to focus on consolidation of infrastructure in colleges: Charak

The expansion in the higher education sector is almost complete, the focus of the government would be now on consolidating infrastructure in degree colleges especially in newly set up colleges, said the Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak while speaking at a high level meeting of college principals of Jammu province convened to review the functioning of colleges.
Commissioner Secretary for Higher Education Pramod Jain and Director Colleges N. D. Wani were also present in the meeting.
Stating that talent of the students needs proper nurturing to produce better human resources, Charak said that "we have to provide every facility to the student community in our institutions". Academic environment coupled with well equipped laboratories and libraries would surely improve standard of education, he said
He said government would take every necessary step for consolidation in the newly setup colleges as well as old colleges all over the state to make these at par with other colleges of the country.
Regarding the University's role Charak said that in higher education, University has pivotal role and stressed for better coordination between university and colleges with regard to academic calendar, examination and timely declaration of results that could become fruitful for students. He assured the principals that soon a meeting would be convened between college principals and university authorities in Jammu and Srinagar to address these problems once for all. He said that "no one would be allowed to spoil academic curriculum of the student community".
Charak also sought the suggestions of principals regarding new admission policy, better academic curriculum and related issues. He stressed upon the principals to ensure punctuality of teaching and non-teaching staff from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. so that whenever the students wants help from teaching staff they should be available in their respective colleges. He said that whosoever flouts these directions would be punished.
The meeting also reviewed the execution work of newly setup colleges in Jammu province by JK PCC and NBCC which are being constructed under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan, Human Resources Development Funding and State Sector. The meeting was informed that the construction of these colleges taken by these agencies were almost complete and need some more funds for allied developmental works so that they would be handed over to the department.
The Minster directed these agencies to speed up the work so that the next academic session could be started in these colleges.
