| 15 Corps celebrates 93rd Raising Day | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 12 The 15-Corps celebrated its 93rd raising day today with traditional enthusiasm at a solemn and austere ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment. GOC, 15 Corps Lt Gen Mules Sabharwal, laid floral wreath at the Corps War Memorial on behalf of all ranks of 15 Corps as a mark of respect to all martyrs who laid down their lives in the call of duty. A special philatelic cancellation ceremony and photo exhibition organized at Badami Bagh Cantt was attended by large number of senior civil and military dignitaries as part of day long celebrations. Lt Gen SK Sinha (Rend) Governor of J&K released the special cover on the occasion. 15 Corps first raised on January 12, 1916 at Port Said in Egypt was raised in 1955 at Udhampur and made responsible for security of Jammu and Kashmir State. Subsequently on raising of Headquarters Northern Command the Corps shifted to its present location at Badami Bagh, Cantt Srinagar in 1972. 15 Corps also know as “Chinar Corps”, derives its name from the formation sign of a Chinar leaf with a battle axe on it. Since independence, 15 Corps has kept vigil over the Line of Control in J&K and has been instrumental in saying Kashmir from evil designs of our enemy. Gallant soldiers of Chinar Corps bravely fought all the wars during post-independence in 1965, 1971 and 1999 and have been fighting the menace of terrorism since late 1980’s. Return of peace and prosperity in Kashmir valley has been achieved due to the dedication, courage and hard work of the troops under command of 15 Corps. The Corps has excelled in all operations it has undertaken and has an enviable record of gallantry. Gallant actions of brave soldiers of Chinar Corps continue to be recorded in the annals of military history. The 15 Corps has won 13 Param Vir Chakras, 83 Maha Vir Chakras, 281 Shaurya Chakras, 13 Ashok Chakras, 61 Kirti Chakras, 473 Vir Chakras, five Param Vishist Seva Medal, 13 Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, 28 Ati Vishist Seva Medal, 47 Yudh Seva Medal, 1964 Sena Medal and 95 Vishist Seva Medal during the pre-independence period . On this occasion, GOC praised all ranks of the Chinar Corps for their sacrifices and selfless services under extremely trying conditions to uphold the sovereignty of the nation. He exhorted all ranks to rededicate themselves to achieve excellence in all their activities so that the name of the Corps is written in golden words in the years to come. He added that we must continue to work with the ‘Awwam’ to ensure that peace and tranquility becomes a permanent feature on this ‘Paradise on Earth’. |
