| Azad vows not to give up his campaign against corruption | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 12 Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has reiterated his commitment to weed out corruption, is faced with a piquant situation following reports that those against whom he initiated action had started joining political parties. While honouring honest officials at a function organized by the Vigilance Organization here yesterday, the Chief Minister said that “I have accepted to come to the state to head the Government simply to throw out the corrupt from the state administration.” He was addressing vigilance officials at a time when one independent MLA was accusing a Minister of having charged Rs 40,000 for clearing the file of his sister on the floor of the Assembly. He said that he will not give up his campaign against the corrupt but “my worry is that those who are thrown out of the Government on charges of corruption had started joining political parties with the sole aim of contesting the next election.” He called upon people to defeat such candidates because once they were elected they could promote corrupt practices again. Sources close to Chief Minister said that Azad was perturbed over the way one senior bureaucrat, Asgar Ali, who was sacked from the Government services on charge of corrupt practices had joined the PDP. Interestingly the PDP has appointed Ali as the state secretary of the party. Azad is said to have received list of other sacked officials who have joined various political parties simply to contest the next election and emerge as law makers in the state Legislature. If the trend continued Azad may find it difficult to sustain his campaign against corruption. However, at the same time he has given green signal to the high ups in the Vigilance Organization on booking all those against whom cases of corruption were established. |
