| Gujjars to oppose further division of State: Mian Altaf | | | Early Times Reporter Kathua | Jan 13 Rejecting the demand of division of the State on regional and communal lines, former Health Minister and senior National Conference leader, Mian Altaf Ahmed, today said that the trifurcation would divide the nationalist forces and strengthening the anti- national elements to carry forward their nefarious designs. Veteran Gujjar leader said that Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir have categorically rejected the proposal of another partition of the State on the name of region or religion. He was speaking in a Gujjar conclave held at Maiy Chak Kathua , today. Mian Altaf, the third time legislature in State Assembly stated that Gujjars, which form third largest ethnic identity of the state never, want trifurcation as they always worked and are working for the unity and the integrity of the state. They, he said, out-rightly rejected the demand of the trifurcation, as it is politically motivated and some people are bent to upon to exploit religious sentiments of the people for their personnel benefits. The Tribal leader further alleged that the property of Gujjars of Jammu and Kathua districts is being grabbed by land mafia in connivance with some elements in the State administration. He said that Government has failed to protect the properties of Tribals in both the districts. "There are thousands of Gujjars in Jammu and surrounding areas, whose land is being grabbed by unlawful means in connivance with the Government machinery", he said and disclosed that thousand Kanals land of Gujjars of Jammu and Kathua has been unlawfully engulfed by land grabbers and the government is silent over the issue. He alleged that the entire Government machinery helped the land grabbers from time to time in making false attorneys and false receipts and appealed the Chief Minister to personally intervene in the matter and restore the land to Gujjars of Jammu and Kathua. Reacting to the demand of Gujjar and Bakerwal community of Kathua for establishment of a milk chilling plant at Chadwal, Mian Altaf said that Government has failed to fulfill this demand of the Tribal population since 2002.He said the project was initiated by National Conference government but the present government has failed to implement this economically viable project for the betterment of tribal population of Kathua. Vetren Gujjar Leader Ch. Salam Din and Karam Din Chopra also spoke on the occasion. |
