A delegation of State Samajwadi Party led by its President and former Member Parliament, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, met Divisional Commissioner, Sudanshu Pandey and demanded payment of relief/compensation to those, whose thatched/kacha houses were damaged/collapsed as a result of torrential rains and flood during the year 2006, in Jammu region; particularly in Niabat Nagrota. The delegation said that the papers duly completed by the Revenue Field staff are lying with Deputy Commissioner, Jammu for want of necessary sanction. The delegation members accordingly urged upon the Div. Commr. to ensure that necessary sanction is accorded and payment to relief made to the concerned at the earliest.
As per press release delegation also expressed its dissatisfaction over the Government’s announcement for distribution of free rations in the drought hit districts of Jammu region which include Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Kathua, for a total period of three months. The delegation said the both Kharif and Rabi crops have been adversely affected upto 95% as a result of which distribution of free rations merely for a period of three moths is not enough and demanded that the same by given for atleast 10 moths i.e up to ending October, 2008, while reacting over the much hyped Roshni Act, the delegation complained that the Coalition Govt., day in and day out, trumpeting it as the major achievement of the Govt., which conferred proprietorship rights over lands to landless people. But ironically contrary to it, the fact is that the benefit of the scheme, by and large, has gone in favour of anti-social elements, land mafia and land grabbers including some politicians, bureaucrats and Police Officers, said Sheikh Abdul Rehmann, SP State Chief said, and added that alone in Paddar in District Kishtwar, while umpteen genuine cases have been deprived of others, who were in illegal possession of Forest land after having burnt down green trees over it, have maneuvered successfully the transfer of proprietorship rights over such lands, under the Roshni Act.
While expressing solidarity with the agitating Doda & Kashmiri migrants who are on dharna, in front of Div. Commr. Office, Sheikh expressed his concern that despite Apex Court’s directive, the demands of Doda Migrants have not been accepted so far and requested the Div. Commr. to take appropriate steps to see that these are accepted at the earliest.
