Service to poor is service to God: Vakil
Distributes Rs.1.95 lakh under welfare schemes

Minister for Social Welfare Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil today distributed Rs.1.95 lakh among 85 beneficiaries of Jammu district under various welfare schemes at a function at Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel for Girls here today. He also distributed 70 sewing machines among deserving beneficiaries on the occasion.
The function was among others attended by MLA Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. Narinder Singh, Director Social Welfare Jammu Mr. Satish Nehru and District Social Welfare Officer Jammu Mr. Khalid Jehangir.
Addressing the function, Mr. Vakil said that transparency and smooth functioning in social Welfare Department would be assured at all levels and officials made accountable for success of every scheme.
Responding to the demands in the Girls hostel, Mr. Vakil gave orders for installing geysers and computers for the students in the Girls hostel.
The service in Social Welfare Department is like a worship and officials rendering help to poor, orphans, widows, destitutes and needy earn God’s blessings apart from salaries, Mr. Vakil Said.
Vakil referred his recent surprise visit to several Social Welfare Offices and expressed his determination to put the department on right track.
Later, addressing a public meeting at Ustad Mohalla, he said “the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has taken historical decisions for the speedy development”. He said that central government was liberally providing assistance to the state for execution of development works. Hundreds of schools, hospitals, college, bridges and buildings have been constructed in last two years on fast track, he added.
Expressing gratitude to central government for innovative social welfare schemes for widows and destitutes, Mr. Vakil said that these schemes also provide for financial assistance is to those widows whose husband dies in encounters.
