| Technology training programme inaugurated at MIER | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 14 Highlighting the importance of information and communication technologies in education, MIER College of Education organized a technology training programme on ‘Using ICT in Teaching – Learning’ for the teachers of the college. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head of Department of Education, University of Jammu. Others present on the occasion were Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Director MIER who was also the Guest of honour, Dr. Renu Gupta Principal of the College and Adit Gupta convener computer information and resource committee. The programme was organized under the guidelines of the Department of Education University of Jammu and in collaboration with Intel Education under their Intel Teach programme. Dr. Renu in her welcome address enlightened the audience about the objectives of the workshop which were to impart sustained professional development to all teacher educators and, to make information communication technology (ICT), an integral part of the ‘Teacher Education Curriculum’. She further added that this programme was based on basic knowledge of computers, developing unit plans, creating multimedia presentations, creating websites, locating resources, developing student and teacher support materials, evaluation tools and finally developing plans for implementation. Prof. Lokesh Verma in his address congratulated the management of the MIER College of Education for organising this programme and highlighted the importance of ICT for the teacher educators. He expressed that teachers in the information age need to be equipped with the modern tools of teaching to benefit the learner and bring about an improvement in the teaching learning process. He also emphasised that ICT alone would help in the professional development of the teachers. Dr Arun Gupta addressed the participants who were teacher educators and motivated them to adopt ICT in a big way in the day to day teaching learning process as this would help them in preparing teachers of the future who will be ready to go and teach using modern technologies to students in schools at various levels. He also emphasised that ICT is one of the important tools for creating an effective teacher and also helps in improving the attitude and achievement level of the students.He also presented a memento to Prof Lokesh Verma as a token of appreciation and for his contribution in helping to organise this workshop. Mool Raj Sharma, Lecturer MIER College of Education, thanked all the guests and participants for making the function a grand success. |
