| Students protest against transfer of teacher | | Community center damaged; Highway blocked for 3 hours | | Early Times Reporter Mendhar | Jan 14 A group of protesting students today went berserk and damaged windows and doors of a community hall at Barghaloon, about 15 kilometers from here. Large number of students from Government Higher Secondary School Barghaloon today staged a protest demonstration against the transfer of an Urdu teacher from their school and blocked Mendhar-Jammu Highway for about three hours. Raising slogans against the government and education authorities, the students staged a sit in on the road and blocked the vehicular movement. "We had requested the authorities that the teacher Muhammad Shabir Khan should be transferred back to the school but no action was taken", a protesting student told News Agency of Kashmir. It was learnt that the teacher was transferred from the school after about three years but the students were demanding cancellation of the transfer orders. As the new teacher Muhammad Ltief joined the school today, students boycotted their classes and came on the road. A teacher, Muhammad Maroof and a clerk, Zaheer Ahmed, were injured when they tried to pacify the students. Reports reaching here revealed that the protesting students later went berserk and damaged a community hall of the area. |
