Lone's masterly stroke a part of a bigger political move

The political circles are agog with speculations about the Cabinet Minister in the Azad government about whom the independent MLA Shoab Lone had alleged to have demanded and taken bribe of Rs 60,000 for applying his signature on the file concerning to the case of Lone's sister. Ever since Lone made the startling allegation on the floor of the house on Friday, guess work has been going on about the name of the minister who is the culprit, since Shoab Lone had refused to name the minister in the House, even after the senior Congress leader and Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma requesting him to name the minister and assuring that action would be taken against him.
Another question which is haunting the political circles, mainly the ruling coalition partners is the real motive of Shoab Lone in throwing a bomb shell in the state assembly by making the sensational revelation as well as his demand for CBI probe into the killing of his father, Ghulam Nabi Lone, a former MoS in Mufti government, over two years after he was assassinated and the case file was closed attributing his assassination to be the handiwork of militants. The timing chosen by Lone, to expose the skeletons in the cupboards of the coalition government, when a patch up has been reached between the two major coalition partners, the Congress and the PDP, who were at logger heads for two years and when all the political parties and groups are gearing up for the next assembly elections too is being debated hotly. The senior PDP leader and leader of the party in the legislature, Abdul Aziz Zargar, who is also Minister for Agriculture has cast doubts on the real motives of Lone in raising these issues at this juncture, while remaining silent over the killing of his father for over two years, implicitly putting the blame on the PDP for the killing of his father. He has alleged that with an eye on next elections which are 8 to 9 months ahead, Lone is creating an atmosphere which can generate sympathy for his slain father and help him in the elections, which he will be fighting again from his present constituency Sangrama. Lone had won the by election from there as a rebel PDP candidate, defeating the official PDP candidate, winning votes on the bases of sympathy wave.
What is a matter of more speculation and guess work is the mastermind behind young Lone, on whose advice and guidance Lone has acted in a way he has done. The PDP circles are pointing fingers towards Lone's mentor and dissident PDP leader Ghulam Hassan Mir, MLA from Tangmarg and a former Cabinet Minister in Mufti Government for being the brain behind Lone. Lone's late father was the closest associate of Ghulam Hassan Mir, who had expressed doubts even at the time of the killing of Ghulam Nabi Lone about the motive and elements behind the act. He had called it a political conspiracy, indirectly blaming his and Lone's rivals within their own party of masterminding the conspiracy to eliminate Lone, since Lone was having differences with some leaders in the party, who were close to Mufti Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti. Again it was Ghulam Hassan Mir who had encouraged Shoab Lone to fight election as an independent, after PDP ticket was denied to him. Mir was also the main campaigner for Lone in the election and was believed to be responsible to a great extent for his victory, using all means to win sympathy of voters of Sangrama for the son of the assassinated father.
However, the matter does not end here. There appears to be a bigger game going on behind the scene the same is being read in the background of an active move to form a third front, one of the principal actor in which is Ghulam Hassan Mir. The CPI(M) MLA and party's J&K State Secretary M Y Tarigami is also active participant in the move for forming the third front. It is in this context that the forceful demand raised by Tarigami for CBI enquiry into the killing of Lone as well as taking action against the minister, after getting his name from Lone, raised by Mr. Tarigami is being read. There are reasons to believe that Ghulam Hassan Mir, Tarigami and National Conference are working in tandem to put the coalition government on the mat. There are strong indications that National Conference and CPI(M) will form alliance in the next elections and a likely third front may also join their band wagon. While all these groups, together with JKNPP may continue to corner the government on this issue, the same will be used as a major point of propaganda in the assembly elections.
