| Not enough, says Opposition | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 14 Even though the Chief Minister made all out attempts to take the House into confidence and hold out an assurance that action will be taken if the charges of corruption were proved against the Minister, the Opposition said that merely a statement was not enough. Leader of Opposition, Abdul Rahim Rather said that his party will not sit silent and would like to see concrete action in the case. "We are not satisfied with the Chief Minister's action. He will have to take strict action against the minister whose integrity is now doubtful", Rather told media persons after Chief Minister's reply in the legislative assembly. Rather said, we have moved an adjournment motion in the house today as two most important issues raised by an independent MLA Shoib Lone necessitated special attention. "But after evaluating government's reply we are not satisfied. The Chief Minister despite making long speeches on curtailing corruption has failed to take stern action or give signal that he will take action against the minister whose official staff has allegedly taken money from MLA for getting the job done". Rather said we will not allow the government to run the business of the house unless some action was taken against the corrupt minister. "The Chief Minister cannot escape his responsibility and he will have to bow down before the house", Rather concluded saying that wait and watch we will not allow the government to run the house proceedings. Earlier, participating in the debate, Rather underlined the need for curbing political corruption with stern hand to carry forward the war against corruption launched by the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad. He also demanded tabling of Kundal Report in the House and action against the Minister about whom Mr. Shoaib had leveled charges. "This would rebuild faith of the people in the government and august House", he added and said that "Mr. Azad has been champion of anti-corruption drive at national level and he should exhibit the same spirit in the state". He beseeched upon Chief Minister to ask the tainted Minister to resign till the inquiry was completed. He said corruption was eating the vitals of the system and people have almost lost the faith in political set up. "It was essential to book the person against whom serious charge of corruption has been leveled", he said. Harshdev Singh also hailed the government's decision in this regard and said that government should come out with a concrete and applicable policy for eradication of corruption in the state. |
