| Lt. Gen Panag presents gallantry, distinguishing awards | | Investiture ceremony of Northern Command | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 15 Lt. Gen. H S Panag, Commanding in-Chief Northern Command, at the investiture ceremony for presentation of Gallantry and Distinguished service awards held at Akhnoor today, presented 60 Sena Medals (Gallantry), three Sena Medal (Distinguished) and eight Vishisht Sena Medals to the awardees. Eight GOC-in-C Appreciation Cards were presented to unit which had excelled in the last one year. The awards were presented at Gangha Auditorium, under the arrangement of Crossed Swords Division. At the impressive ceremony, Taslima Bano, the wife of Late Rifleman Bashir Ahmed Khan, received the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for the brave efforts of her husband, who laid down his life while fighting the scourge of terrorism. The ceremony was attended by senior civil, paramilitary and military dignitaries. GoC 16 Corps and GoC Crossed Swords Division were among those present. Speaking at the function, Lt. Gen Panag commended the awardees for having shown exemplary courage and devotion to duty while carrying out the onerous task of defending the motherland under trying and difficult conditions. He paid glowing tributes to those soldiers who had made the supreme sacrifice to preserve the unity and integrity of our nation. Gurjit Panag, President AWWA Northern Command, who was also present at the function, presented gifts to the next of kin of posthumous awardees. She enquired about their well being and assured them of continuous support of the Army to help them realize their aspirations and live a fulfilling life. |
