| Romeo force celebrates Army day | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | January 15 Romeo Force, the elite Counter Insurgency Force deployed in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch celebrated the Army Day, with great zeal and enthusiasm. The contributions of the gallant martyrs who had laid down their lives in the ‘defence of the motherland’ were remembered on the occasion. The celebrations commenced with a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial. A two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for brave soldiers who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow. The Army Day is celebrated to commemorate the historic day of 15 January 1949, when Indian Army had an Indian at the head of its command. General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa, took over as Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army from General Roy Bucher. The General Officer Commanding, Romeo Force complimented the soldiers in his message on the occasion, for their unflinching zeal and selfless devotion to duty; earning the gratitude, respect and appreciation of people. The General Officer also urged them not to rest on past laurels but rededicate themselves to excel in all future endeavours. Besides restoring normalcy in the area, Romeo Force has ushered in grassroots level development by imaginative projects for a brighter and more prosperous future of the people of the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch. The bond between Army and Awaam is getting strengthened day by day and locals now look up to Army for fulfilling all their future aspirations. |
