| Revival of Cooperative societies in J&K | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 15 Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar today informed the Legislative Council " Rs 262 crore have been sanctioned by the Central Government for the revival of Cooperatives societies in J&K and every registered cooperative society will be revived and made functional very soon". He was replying to supplementaries of a question by Mrs. Farida Mir. He said "about 211 cooperatives have been registered in the state during last 2 years which include 33 registered societies under cooperative society Act of 1989 for poultry and dairy and 178 cooperatives under self-reliant cooperative Act of 1999. Out of 60 cooperative societies 46 women cooperative societies are functional in the state". Zargar said that for the empowerment of women in the state two women cooperative banks would be opened in the state one each in Srinagar and Jammu. For providing facilities to the farming community of the state, the Minister said "the process of reviving of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies "have been initiated in the year 2003-04 with the setting up of a modest target of one Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society for each block". The initiative received encouraging response and the undertaking credit business also go increased. Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies besides handling the credit business are also engaged in the distribution of agriculture inputs. Out of 766 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies, 755 are functioning in the state which include 395 in Kashmir and 371 in Jammu province. The supplementaries were raised by Devender Rana, Nasrullah, Murtaza Khan and Sakina Ittoo. Construction of Fruit Mandi at Zazna Ganderbal In reply to another question by Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat Minister of State for Horticulture Mr. Gharu Ram told LC "67 kanals and 12 marlas of revenue land have been identified for establishment of fruit Mandi at Zazna block Wakoora, Ganderbal and formal transfer of the said land by the revenue department is awaited". "With regard to construction of cold storage in the proposed mandi he said that it can be established by the fruit growers and traders association and cooperatives for which the financial assistance is available under technology mission". |
