| Army places order for production of BrahMos missile system | | | New Delhi, Aug 24: Army has placed the order for production of BrahMos missile system and its induction will commence in 2007, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Replying to written questions, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee denied any shortage of funds for the Indo-Russian joint venture Brahmos and said the project was fully supported by both Indian and Russian Governments with necessary funds.
About its induction in the army, he said "the Indian Army has already placed orders for the production of BrahMos missile system and the induction will commence in 2007." USS LPD: Government has approved acquisition of Landing Platform Dock (LPD) alongwith four Landing Craft Mechanised (LCMs) for Indian Navy from the US at a cost of 48.23 million dollars as it would provide enhanced amphibious capability to the Navy, he said in reply to another question.
Though there was no technology transfer, its induction would help in gaining user experience and provide essential design inputs for the indigenous constrution, he said.
World Heritage: Government has submitted a nomination dossier of the 17th century Red Fort to the World Heritage Centre for considering its inscription on the World Heritage List, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni informed the Lok Sabha.
She said evaluation of the nomination will be carried out by an expert advisory body of UNESCO and the report will be placed for decision.
Tourism arrival: India's share in the world tourist arrivals and international tourism receipts was 0.49 per cent and 0.84 per cent respectively.
Several steps had been taken by tourism ministry for promoting India as tourism destination, she said. |
