| Volleyball: Science College, Commerce in QFs | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 15 Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College and Government SPMR College of Commerce today qualified for the quarterfinals of annual inter-college men’s volleyball competitions organized by the Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu, here. While Commerce College went underway a close contest before beating Degree College Poonch 3-2, Science College had an easy straight sets victory over Degree College Rajouri in the pre-quarterfinals played. Earlier, winning first set 25-20, Commerce College lost the following two (18-25, 17-25) to go down 1-2. But a superb game played by Satish Sharma helped Commerce College fought back and clinched the remaining two sets 25-18, 15-9 to make it a 3-2 win in the best of five. In the second match of the day, GGM Science College trounced Degree College Rajouri 3-0. It was Bipen Singh who remained in limelight for his exceptional skills in both attack and defence thus guiding Science College to an easy victory. Another first round match played today was won by Government College of Education, who beat Degree College Akhnoor again in straight sets. Except for the third set, the match hardy witnessed any fight. The score: 25-14, 25-16, 25-22. Today’s matches were officiated by Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Sharma, Mulkh Raj and Rajesh. |
