| Walkovers guide Kathua, PG Deptts to semis of lawn tennis | | | Early Times Reporter

Post Graduate Departments and Degree College Kathua have reached the last four stages of the inter-college lawn tennis competitions organized by the Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu on the campus here.
Degree College Kathua got walkover Acharya Shrichandra College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) while PG Departments awarded walkover GGM Science College.
Now, in the semi-finals, to be played tomorrow, PG Departments shall take on DC Kathua while Government MAM College has already reached the final getting walkovers.
Unfortunately, only three colleges could turn up for the competition as against eight entries received by the Department of Physical Education. Among those did not report are two city colleges of SPMR Colleges of Commerce and GGM Science College.
“It is unfortunate on part of city colleges that they did not report even after submitting their entries for participation in written to the Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu. The time has come when this absenteeism should be stopped in the inter-college competitions,” an official of the Department of Physical Education told SAN pleading not to be quoted.
He maintained that only three teams could make it to the venue out of eight entries in lawn tennis event. “The nonappearance of five important teams has spoiled the whole tournament because entering into the final getting walkovers spoiled the basic purpose of the competition,” he pointed out. |
