| T-20 Cricket: NCC sails into final | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 15 Sailing on superb performance from Manish Dogra and Sanjay Sharma, National Cricket Club (NCC) today entered into the final of Twenty-20 cricket tournament beating Cantt Cricket Club by 31 runs at Parade Ground, here. Batting first after winning the toss, NCC made 105 runs in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Cantt Cricket Club could not chase the total and the whole side bowled out for 74 runs in the 19.3 overs. The star studded side of NCC could not give the expected performance and except for opener Manish Dogra no other batsman could batted well. Manish made highest 25 runs including two boundaries while Kavaljeet Singh, who came at No. 9 position added unbeaten 14 runs. Pranav Mahajan (12) was other batsman who scored in double figure. From Cantt Club, Umesh Gupta was most successful bowler with three for 21 while Vijay Dogra took two for 20 in four overs. Vicky bagged one wicket. Batting second, despite the presence of star batsmen, Ian Dev Singh and Vijay Sharma, Cantt Club failed in their stride to catch the run rate and the whole side bowled out for 74 runs in the last over of their innings. The bad beginning of losing first wicket for just three runs on board, haunted Cantt Club throughout and the wickets continue felling on regular intervals. Vijay Sharma and Ian Dev were the maximum scorers with 14 runs each, followed by Ashish Rana who contributed 13 runs. No other batsman could touch the double figure mark. Pranav Mahajan and Deepak bagged two wickets apiece. Sanjay Sharma, who took three of the last four wickets, caused maximum damage to Cantt Club innings. He was later declared man of the match for his three-wicket haul. Now, in the second semi-final, Madan Mohan Cricket Club shall take on the hosts, Luxmi Cricket Club. |
