| Micky wins consolation prize | | | Nirbhay Jammual Jammu | Jan 15 The suave and handsome Congress legislator Arvinder Singh Micky, who was running for a ministerial berth till the last ministry expansion earlier this month has finally won the consolation prize. Micky has been elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council –a post seen lesser in power but higher in protocol. There has not been any Deputy Chairperson in the Legislative Council since long for the lack of consensus among the coalition partners. Interestingly, missing the ministerial berth very narrowly, Micky has proved lucky that those who were sworn in as Ministers. The Ministers will have to go with the term of the present assembly ending later this year but as Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council, Micky has over four years in office –he has been an MLC for close to two years. For the process of election, a Motion was moved by S.Praduman Singh and seconded by Mr. Nizam-ud-Din Bhat. The motion was put to vote and passed in the House by voice vote. Arvinder Singh expressed thanks to congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Treasury bench for his nomination. He also expressed his gratitude to the House for electing him unopposed. Minister for Agriculture Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar congratulated to newly elected Deputy Chairman and hoped he would play positive role in conducting the business and maintaining sanctity of the House. Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Mr. P. Namgyal also spoke on the occasion and felicitated newly elected Deputy Chairman and assured full cooperation during the business in the House. Prof. Bhim Singh congratulated S.Arvinder Singh and expressed concern over not filling up of Deputy Chairman's post which was vacant for last about three years. Ms Sakina Ittoo also congratulated S. Arvinder Singh. |
