Gurvinder of Amritsar bags Panthal Kesari title

Wrestler Gurvinder Singh of Amritsar in Punjab clinched the `108th Panthal Kesari 2008’ title outplaying a junior national medalist, Parveen of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi for the main bout that took place at Panthal, eight-kilometer from holy town of Katra.
The winner was given away a cash prize of Rs 6,000 in addition to `silver gurj and patta’ jointly by Station House Officer (SHO) Katra, S S Sambyal and president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Runner-up of the main bout, Parveen got Rs 5,000 as cash prize from the organisers, Shri 108 Swami Nitya Nand Wrestling Association Panthal under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Dr Manoj Kumar was chief guest in the day-long dangal, which was witnessed by a big crowd. Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function while Kushal Kumar Sanmotra, CEO Kishtwar was guest of honour. A host of members of the organizing committee including Rakesh Khajuria, Sunil Badyal and Yog Raj Gutpa, president Ramban Dangal committee.
In all, 47 bouts were played. The second main bout was won by Jagroop of Amritsar beating Sonu of Himachal Pradesh. Jagroop was given away Rs 4,000 while Sonu got Rs 3500 as prize money. Benia of Basantgarh in Ramanagar clinched the third main bout outplaying Puran Singh of Amritsar in the 11-minute long fight to bag Rs 3,000 as cash prize.
The fourth bout between school national medalist, Anuj Raina and Sunny of Hoshiarpur in Punjab ended in a draw with both sharing a Rs 2000 each cash prize.
In other important bouts, Sonu of Amritsar bt Akram of Jammu; Swarn Singh of Kot Bhalwal in Jammu bt Ajay of Himachal Pradesh; Love bt Kala of Amritsar; Jagdish bt Inderjeet; Onkar Singh of BSF Jammu bt Dana, Kulbir Singh bt Inderjeet; Mohd Akram of Jammu bt Anuj Malik of Delhi and Onkar Singh of Jammu bt Shinda of Amritsar.
Later, Shiv Sharma in his vote of thanks, expressed his gratitude to those individual and agencies who helped in making the event a success.
