| Court convicts hotel owner for double drawl of rent | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 17 Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, has convicted the accused Abdul Qayoom Beigh resident of Sonawar, Srinagar, Managing partner Hotel President Sonawar for double drawl of rent from both the Estates and Police departments and imposed a fine of Rs.1,37,675, besides imprisonment till rising of the court. A Vigilance spokesman said that a case was registered on October 24, 2000 on a complaint from Director Estates alleging therein that in the course of verification of their records it had surfaced that the owner of the hotel had fraudulently drawn against fake bills of rent for the hotel. The spokesman further said that during the course of investigation involvement of any public servant in these fake drawls was not made out and the involvement of the Hotel owner was established and offence under section 420/467 proved against him. The challan of the case was produced on August 7, 2006 and after a trial of about 17 months by the court, the accused was convicted. |
