The corruption scam allegedly involving a Minister which stunned the state and embarrassed the government is getting thicker and murkier by the day.
While Peerzada has questioned MLA Shoaib Lone's intentions for raising the issue seven months after the alleged episode of corruption, the MLA has come up with another startling allegation. He told a press conference today that he wanted to raise this question during autumn session of the assembly but the Legislative Assembly Speaker persuaded him to withdraw the question.
The sacked Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today turned up to the Legislative Assembly with the official file pertaining to the ETT College of legislator Shoaib Lone's sister and claim that the proposal was approved within two hours after the case was put before him. Reading the file noting, date and time when it was presented before him, Peerzada said, "when file was fit was approval in all respects and was approved in no time, where did the question of demanding and accepting the bribe arise".
Another vital question which he raised was that the file was approved on June 22, 2007 and the MLA kept quit for seven months. He also brought to fore the self-contradiction in Shoiab Lone's statements as earlier he had said that the Private Secretary had accepted the bribe money, then he named the Personal Assistant and finally he raised fingers on driver.
On the contrary, the MLA Shoaib Lone told a press conference that his point was to raise the menace of corruption and not hit the Minister. He alleged that he had listed such a question pertaining to this particular case during the autumn session of the assembly in Srinagar but the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly persuaded him to withdraw the question.
During his press conference, Shoaib appeared on back-foot and little remorseful as he repeatedly said that he never wanted an action against the Minister or his public defamation the way it has happened. He said, "I had to name the Minister only when his wife threatened my mother over telephone".
Brushing aside all allegations Peerzada said that he had received the file on June 22, 2007, Friday and after finding the papers upto the mark he approved it within two hours. "Where comes the question of accepting the bribe" he asked and said the whole thing was conspiracy and a drama staged to defame him.
"In order to help free and fair inquiry into the matter, I resigned from both the posts of a Minister and President JKPCC", he maintained.
Saying that the member never brought to his notice any matter of bribing despite the lapse of seven months since the time he had approved the file, "how come the matter was now raised pointing finger towards a Driver, Special Assistant, PRO, Private Secretary and Peon depicting contradiction itself", he lamented.
"The driver accused in the matter is close to the family of the member who has leveled the allegation and calls him 'brother and his mother Mummy' in personal capacity", Peerzada disclosed.
