| One out, NC after two others | | Govt drags feet on Kundal report, opposition adamant | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 17 After claiming credit for exit of Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed from the cabinet on charges of corruption, the opposition National Conference is not leaving any stone unturned to target the Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal and Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Karra. This morning when the Legislative Assembly met for the Question Hour, the Opposition members were on their feet demanding tabling of the Kundal Committee report –which had probed irregularities in the Forest department. There was a complete pandemonium in the House as the opposition did not agree on anything short of the complete report even though Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma assured that the report will be table in few days. Though the full contents of the Kundal Committee report have not been officially made public by the government, but media reports quoting unnamed sources had indicated the names of present Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal and his predecessor Tariq Hamid Karra who held the charge of Forest department till August 2006. Based on these media reports and expecting involvement of two Ministers in some alleged irregularities, the Opposition National Conference is asking for the report so that the Ministers are made to meet the fate of Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed. The National Conference had earlier claimed that Peerzada's exit was possible only after its tireless efforts in the legislative assembly for three days. On Tuesday, the National Conference members pressed the Chief Minister hard to present the Kundal report. The Chief Minister sought to assure the House that involvement of any Minister has not been found in the report. The National Conference, however, did not agree and compelled the Chief Minister to give an assurance on presentation of report to which the Chief Minister reluctantly agreed. Interestingly, despite assurance of the Chief Minister the government has not come up with the report in the House thus making the opposition to protest every day and waste the time of legislature proceedings. As soon as the proceedings started the NC members were seen on their feet shouting "Kundal report Pesh Karo, pesh karo."Despite repeated requests from the speaker,Mr Tara Chand,to the members that they should resume their seat as the report will be tabled when the copies were printed the irate members went on shouting "report Pesh Karo,Pesh Karo." After repeated attempts at disrupting the proceedings of the House the Health Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma, intervened and informed the agitated members that it will take three to four days for getti ng the copies of the report printed. He said the Government wanted to print between 250 and 300 copies of the report and the report will be tabled in the House within three to four days. National Conference leader Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mubarik Gul, and Mir Saifullah, shouted loud while expressing their fears that the report was being changed. They raked up their charge of tampering with the report when Mr Mangat Ram Sharma said that since no minister had been indicted in the report there was no reason for the opposition to raise hue and cry. Even Mr Abdul Rehman Veeri of the PDP decried the NC members for wasting the time of the House when the Government had assured the House that the Kundal committee report would be tabled soon. The leader of opposition, Mr Abdul Rahim Rather who was also on his feet supporting the party members' demand on the tabling of the report, said that the Chief Minister was on record to have said that the committee report would be tabled the next day.He said that it was unfortunate if the Government did not bother to implement the assurance of the Chief Minister. |
