National Conference MLC Devender Singh Rana on Friday, gave a piece of advice to Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Qarra not to mislead the people of the state by drawing comparisons between the performance of the coalition government and the National conference government.
“The circumstances under which Dr Farooq Abdullah came to office in 1996 were totally different and Finance Minister should have considered the fact before drawing comparisons. The state was devastated, economy was shattered and the infrastructure had crumbled due to militancy violence. ‘We were looking for succor from the centre government but very little help came our way. We only inherited liabilities of the Governor’s rule, Rana said while participating in the discussion on the budget in the Upper House.
Setting the record straight, Rana said, “Finance Minister has committed an error by comparing performances of the National Conference government with that of the coalition government to gain political mileage”.
‘We were not fortunate enough to have received liberal funding from the Centre’, Rana said and added what Mr Qarra has attempted is nothing but projection of deceit. We did not get the Gowda package. Taking on Qarra head on Rana said Finance Minister has only done book entries and is patting his back claiming he has done a commendable job.
"What is unprecedented about your achievements, Rana said blasting the claims of the Finance Minister. You have only done jugglery with the figures and mislead the people by claiming that it is zero deficit budget. Claiming that the Finance Minister has not painted a true picture of the state finances Rana said there is huge mismatch between the income and expenditure of the state and Finance Minister is silent on the front. It is not clear how Finance Minister will raise the resources to fill the resource gap in the state budget.
