| Exhibition of non-conventional energy devices held | | | SRINAGAR, AUGUST 24 - Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA), Science and technology Department with the financial support of Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy sources (MNES), Government of India observed as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (RGAUD) in the summer capital of the state. The Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (Renewable Energy Day) is a programme sponsored by the MNES, government of India with the objective of creating awareness amongst the masses in general and youth had student community in particular about non-conventional energy generation. At the state level, JAKEDA organized various activities like essay competition and symposium on the benefits of renewable energy, school run, cycle race and exhibition on non-conventional energy devices with the active participation of the student community of the state to create mass awareness in the promotion and popularization of non-conventional energy. Minister for Science and Technology, Information Technology and Sheep and Husbandry, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din inaugurated the one day exhibition on non-conventional energy devices at SKICCA lawns, as a part of the various activities organized by JAKEDA on the eve of RGAUD. Speaking on the occasion the Minister underscored the need for developing alternate sources of energy to lessen the dependence of mankind on exhaustible fossil fuels. The Minister informed that JAKEDA has launched a massive solar lighting programme with the MNES, Government of India financial suppo9rt for coverage of un-electrified census villages of the state. He also INFORMED THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS SIGNING MoUS WITH THE Union Ministry of non-conventional Energy Sources for providing electricity to un-electrified census villages of the state through renewable energy sources and MNES approved consultants and developers for generation of electricity from wind. The Commissioner Secretary Science and Technology and Information Technology speaking on the occasion highlighted the need to bring down the prices on non-conventional energy devices to affordable limited for the benefit of the common man. Earlier, Chief Executive Officer, JAKEDA in his welcome address gave a resume of account of the various activities undertaken by JAKEDA and programmes that the Agency is implementing during the current financial year. The function was also attended by Director, Radio Kashmir, officers of Sheep and animal Husbandry, Science and Technology, Information Technology and Education Department. |
