| Sports Council to have 100 new coaches | | | Sanjeev Sharma Jammu | Jan 18 In a process to re-organise J&K State Sports Council—an autonomous sports body, the State Government intends to create at least 100 posts of coaches in different disciplines in near future. Already facing shortage of staff to meet the requirements of ever growing strength of trainees and increase in number of affiliated sports associations, the present state government is formulating a comprehensive plan to overhaul the sports wings, which remained neglected during the past many years “There is a dearth of staff in the State Sports Council and to revamp this highest sports body, efforts are on to reorganize it for the overall development of the sports,” Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Ravinder Gupta told Sports & Allied News. And in the process of reorganization, the government is mooting an idea to create around 100 posts of coaches to strengthen its network at the ground level. “Since the reorganization of the State Sports Council is in the process, the government has decided to create at least 100 posts of coaches. To begin with government has already doubled the grant to the Sports Council,” informed the Secretary, who is also Director of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS). Gupta further had a special mention of near 2000 posts of Physical Education Teachers (PETs) lying vacant in the department. “As Director of the DYSS, I want to convey that near 2000 posts of PETs are lying vacant in the Department and as such DYSS too deserves re-organization,” he said, hoping that these vacancies will also be filled up in due course of time. He said that all outstanding sports persons absorbed in the government departments under SRO 369 should be appointed in the DYSS as their presence and guidance could help in shaping the young talent at the school level into great sportspersons. Speaking during a felicitation function organized by a sports association here on the other day, Mr Gupta, who is the Head of the state sports, said that government is doing a lot to revamp the sports by way of better infrastructural facilities at the ground level but at the same time he advised the sportspersons to continue strive for improved results. |
