Amidst small objections from the opposition, the legislative assembly today gave nod for setting up of a shrine board for the management of Shiv Khori shrine in Reasi district.
The shrine will now be managed by the Divisional Commission Jammu –provided that the officer should be a Hindu. In the contrary circumstances the Deputy Commissioner of Reasi or the Assistant Commissioner shall be the chairman of the shrine board.
With a voice vote the Legislative Assembly today passed the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Bill to provide for the better management, administration and governance of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine and its endowments including the lands and buildings attached, or appurtenant, to the Shrine and for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto.
The Bill was tabled for consideration by Minister of State for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Manjit Singh. Amendment by Ajay Sadhotra suggesting to refer the Bill to a Select Committee of the House consisting of such member as will be nominated by the Speaker was rejected by voice vote.
Mian Altaf Ahmad moved amendments, which read “it shall also be duty of the board to take steps to establish out of Shrine Fund Educational Institutions of higher learning including Technical Education o n the pattern of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board”. His amendment further added, “the Board shall also take steps to ensure that 20% of the Shrine Fund is spent for the development of Reasi and its adjoining areas”.
Minister of State for Law and Parliamentary Affairs S. Manjit Singh replying the discussion and responding to the amendments moved by Mian Altaf Ahmad said that these have already been considered in draft Bill and moved the Bill for passing.
The Bill was put to voice vote and was passed alongwith amendments moved by Mian Altaf Ahmad. Earlier, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh, Dr. Manohar Lal, Ajay Sadhotra and Mian Altaf Ahmad took part in the discussion on the Bill.
