Plan afoot to restrict internet access in valley
2/14/2018 11:13:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 14: The union home ministry is contemplating move to restrict internet access in the valley. The ministry is also likely to set up an expert committee to take on the anti-India programmes being circulated on the social media.
The social media is being seen as a major force for radicalising the Kashmiri youth and bombarding their young minds with the 'heroic' act of terrorists.
The concern was expressed by the GoC-in-C northern command in a press meet today where he stated the social media is a time bomb and it's playing a major role.
The views of the topmost army officer of the northern command reflect the concerns of the Government of India which has strong inputs that ISI and its actors are funelling crores of rupees to radicalise Kashmiri youth through social.
The video clip of Kashmiri terrorists projecting them as 'hero' holding gun and also about escape of Pakistani terrorist Naveed 'rejoining' terrorism went viral in the Kashmir.
"We have been able to take control of the situation after a lot of efforts. We don't want the things to drift away now.
So we are planning to first restrict the internet access by either lowering its speed considerably or by disrupting it all together considerably. That is one of the plan we are working on and are holding talks with the telecom operator and talks are in the final stages," said a senior home ministry officials.
The sources said that the talks are also on constituting a task force to make programmes online which can counter the pro-Pak propaganda and a programming is being devised in a manner that these push themselves on online platform especially on social media site the movement one clicks the pro-Pak propaganda programme," said the official.
The sources said that the state government especially the security agencies have also expressed their concerns and have given their inputs in this regard to the home ministry.
