A deputation of Evacuees Property Tenants Welfare Society, comprising Shanti Devi MLA and patron of the society, Banarsi Das Angral President, Nazir Ahmed Senior Vice President, Suraj Ram Sharma Gen. Secy, Rattan Sawhney Treasurer and Ramesh Sharma Publicity Secy today called on the Minister of State for Revenue, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, to present before him their grievances and reiterate their long standing demands.
The deputation had a very cordial an hour long meeting with the minister, in which the Revenue Secretary and Custodian General were also present. The deputationists told the minister that their pressing demands for grant of long term lease for 40 years in favour of the tenants of evacuee property for last many decades, permission for additions and alterations in the evacuee property under occupation of genuine tenants, without enhancing any rent as well as fixation of nominal charges for transfer of tenancy to non legal heirs of the incumbent tenants, which were sent to the government by the official committee comprising revenue secretary, Custodian General EP and custodian EP are still pending final approval by the government. They requested the minister to see that granting of permission by the government to the proposal sent by the committee with its recomendations is expedited, so that uncertainty in the matter is removed. The revenue secretary fully agreed with the argument of the deputations that since by making additions and alterations to the evacuee buildings, by the tenants, incurring all the expenditure on their own they are only adding to the value of the property, hence any enhancement of rent in these cases was not justified. The minister also appreciated their argument and assured that full justice will be done with them and the tenants will not be unnecessary harassed.
In the presence of the deputation, the minister discussed at length with the Revenue Secy and the Custodian General about the genuineness of their demands and instructing them to prepare a positive and favourable proposal to be forwarded to the government, foe approval. The minister also assured the deputation that after the present assembly session is over, he would personally discuss with the Chief Minister, who is also the Revenue Minister their concerns and genuine demands and see to it that justice is meted out to them.
