| PDD supply line kills one, damages 5 residential houses | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 19 At least five residential houses were completely gutted in a devastating fire incident in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district, while a government employee was electrocuted in the same area, last night. If the villagers have to be believed the damaged supply lines of PDD were responsible for the fire incident and it also caused death of a villager. Sources informed that at around 12.30 AM house of one Mohammad Shafi son of Mir Muhammad of Chajala village caught fire due to the short circuit. The fire soon engulfed the entire residential house and also spread in the adjoining houses. Police said that four other houses caught fire, which could not be controlled in time, causing damage to lakhs of rupees. The houses gutted belonged to Muhammad Shafi son of Mir Muhammed resident of Chajala area of Mendhar tehsil of poonch district and his sons Kaleem Hussian, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammed Rasheed and Abdul Rehman. "Four persons of the family were serving in Saudi Arabia and had returned recently", said Muhammad Shafi alleging gold and cash worth Rs 15 lakh was destroyed in the fire. The cause of fire was said to be the short circuit and the villagers alleged that they requested the PDD authorities to repair the wire which, they said, was not in good condition. "The service line of the area which was passing through one of the house was in a damaged condition", a villager said adding, "Due to wind it touched the other wire causing a short circuit". "We had requested AEE PDD Mendhar and asked him to depute some engineers to the village as the wire was damaged at so many places but he ignored our request" said Muhammad Shafi the fire victim adding the main supply line was damaged at different places. Meanwhile, a government employee Muhammad Rafiq son of Muhammad Shafi was electrocuted during the wee hours today soon after he went outside his home for getting water. He also became victim of a damaged supply wire of Power in the same area. Sub district Magistrate Muzaffar Peer visited the village and order on the spot direction for providing tents and other necessary arrangements for the fire victims. "We have given one tent to each family and other daily life requirements are being arranged for them" a police officer said that adding an FIR to this effect has been registered and investigations were taken up. |
