| Digital metering in Jammu, Srinagar to be completed by Oct end: Jora | | | Srinagar, August 24 –Minister for Power, Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that digital metering launched in major cities of Srinagar and Jammu under Reformatory Measures being introduced country wide in Power sector, would be completed by the end of October this year. Mr. Jora said that reformatory measures introduced under the Accelerated Power Development Reformation Programme (APDRP) in the state like else where in the country during last year aimed at improving the power scenario. He said the present government is determined to install the meters in every nook and corner of the state with a view to plug power and revenue pilferage. He said there is no alternative but to go for metering in all the areas to reduce the power losses at various levels to improve the power scenario in the state. Addressing a press conference here today, Minister asserted that power situation has witnessed great improvement in the areas where digital metering has been done bringing down load shedding to zero level. He appealed people to cooperate with the PDD authorities in installation of meters and in return ensured power stabilization. He said that 36,000 meters were installed last year in different areas of the valley and about 20,000 more households were covered during the first six months of the current financial year. Mr. Jora sought the cooperation of Legislators, Corporators and the people in general for making the programme of metering a grand success. At the same time he enjoined upon the PDD authorities to educate the people about the benefits of metering. Chief Engineer Mr. Nissar Hussain, Chief Engineer System and Operations Mr. A. R. Guru, Development Commissioner, Mr. Showkat Rashid Wani were also present on the occasion. |
