| Babu Singh inspects Chenani hydro electric project | | ‘Likely to be re-commissioned by March’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 19 The Minister of State for Power Babu Singh today announced that the Chenani Hydro Electric project stage-1 and II which was dedicated to the people by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1971 and stopped functioning since 2005 would be made functional on priority. He said this while inspecting the project today. He also directed Managing Director Power Development Corporation to immediately release Rs. 81 lakh for desiltation and other repair works of the canal of this project. in order to meet the growing demand of the power of the consumers of the state, the Minister said, it was imperative to restore the project on priority and asked the concerned to replace the old machinery to ensure the project is re-commissioned by mid of March this year. The project is likely to generate 23.3 MW of power.. He said that power is most essential factor for the development of industries which are fast growing in the state. He said that electricity consumption is also increasing day-by-day with the frequent use of electric gadgets. He also impressed upon the engineers to remain vigilant and check power pilferage and tampering of meters. Later, the Minister also visited the site where the new tunnel is being made and checked the material being used for it and urged engineers to use quality material. The Chief Engineer informed the Minister that the total cost of project is Rs. 737 lakh, of which Rs. 501.72 lakh have been incurred so far. He was also informed that boring work on 718 meter long D-shape tunnel has been completed. District Development Commissioner O. P. Kalandria, MD JKPDC S. K. Naik, Chief Engineer Generation S. K. Raina and other senior officers and Engineers of the department accompanied the Minister. |
