| Qazi for early return of pandits | | | Udhampur, August 24 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Qazi Mohammad Afzal has said that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits. He said that Kashmir Pandits played a pivotal role in the socio-economic transformation especially of the state adding that society owes a lot to this community for giving it teachers of rare repute. The Minister was addressing a gathering at Battal Ballian at Udhampur during his week long tour of Jammu Province. Qazi Afzal said that due to migration of Kashmiri Pandits a void has been created in the culture of Kashmir valley which has a history of centuries . He appealed them to return to their homes in to re-unite with Kashmir Muslim brothers and resume their role in promotion of Kashmir culture, art, language and above all in the development of the region. The Minister said that a network of developmental programmes launched in the state has started yielding satisfactory results and it is heading towards peace and progress. The Minister asked Director Health Services for organizing a Medical Camp in the camps of Udhampur and Battal Ballian. Responding to the demands put forth by the camp dwellers including shifting of camp to some other safer place, enhancement of relief from Rs. 3000 to 6000 and special drive for employment of migrant youth Minister assured them that the same would be taken up at the appropriate forum. Enroute, several deputations met the Minister and apprised him about their problems. The Minister assured them that their genuine demands would be solved in a phased manner. Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Mr. Kalandria, Chief Engineer, PHE Mr. V.K. Goswami, MLC Mr. Ved Mahajjan were present on the occasion. |
