Govt contemplates to restore identity, powers of Numberdars, Chowdkidars: Charak

Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak has said that government is of the view to restore the identity and powers enjoyed by the Numberdars and Chowkidars earlier. He said for the purpose a policy is on anvil to provide proper uniform to them so that they are recognized as per the status.
Minister was addressing Numberdars and Chowkidars of tehsil Bishnah at Pandorian this afternoon.
Charak said that the plan proposes that the Numberdars and Chowkidars are provided accommodation in revenue complexes at district and tehsil levels to cooperate the administration and attend the visitors from their respective areas for getting redressal of their problems with regard to revenue and other works. He said that being the important constituent of the democratic setup the Numberdars and Chowkidars act as bridge between administration and the people.
Charak said that government has already taken a bold step for restoration of their powers by way of enhancement of their monthly honorarium from Rs. 81 to Rs. 501 from April 1, 2007 and added "you are empowered to monitor all developmental works besides to check the attendance of the government institutions in your respective areas". He said that the basic aim of the government was to strengthen these gross root institutions which pay way for development of the state.
The Minister directed the Numberdars and Chowkidars to utilize their services for the overall betterment of the state. He said that "without people's participation and cooperation no state could achieve the desired targets".
Highlighting the achievements of the government Mr. Charak said that during last five years particularly last two years the state has achieved desired targets in building the infrastructure in different sectors besides to provide road communication, medicare and education facilities at the door steps of the people. He said 40 new degree colleges have been set up just last five years in different parts of the state particularly in far off areas to provide better education facility in these areas.
Charak said that big projects have been completed under fast-track development programme in a record period of 18 months particularly in health, R&B, education and PHE sectors to benefit the people at the earliest. He said that the new created administrative units by the government have started their functioning within 8 months of record period. He said that government is committed to provide every facilities to the people of the state as early as possible. He stressed upon them to give their whole-hearted cooperation to the government for achieving the goal of Khushhali in J&K.
The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer Irrigation Mr. V.K.Abrol, Chief Engineer Ravi Tawi Mr. P. R. Bhagat, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mr. I. A. Zargar and other senior officers of irrigation and R&B.
