| CB arrests touts, board employees for tampering answer sheets | | | Early Times Reporter

According to Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch Kashmir, Srinagar, the Crime Branch received a communication from Controller Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) which revealed that in connection with the result of CET 2007 some candidates applied for re-evaluation/re-totaling of marks. During re-totaling it was found that Mytree Koul D/o B.L. Koul Roll No. 300485, Pakaeeza Ahmad D/o Ghulam Ahmed Beigh Roll No. 301011, Farzana Iqbal D/o Mohd Iqbal Zargar Roll No. 301614 and Arshad Gul Babar Dar S/o Gh. Mohd Dar Roll No. 3033023 in league with some officials of BOPEE have tampered with records. On receipt of communication, a case under FIR No. 81/2007 was registered in Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir for in-depth investigation.
During investigation, it came to surface that in connivance with above aspirants, employees of BOPEE namely Mohd Ashraf Sofi S/o Ab Salam, Sunil Bhat S/o Bansi Lal Bhat R/o Noorpora and Farooq Ahmad S/o Ab. Aziz R/o Qazigund through touts tried to get answer scripts of CET 2007 solved by making forgery and insertions at the time of revaluation/re-totaling in order to raise merit against monetary consideration for getting seat in MBBS for Rs. 12 lacs each.
The investigation unearthed that these aspirants before approaching the CET had conspired with these employees of BOPEE through touts thereby had submitted their answer scripts almost un-attempted in order to get them attempted at the time of revaluation/re-totaling, which was done by these aspirants with assistance of the employees of BOPEE in a local hotel at Dalgate Srinagar, thereby raising the merit of these four candidates. As per the plan, they were to agitate the matter before competent authority and in case of being unsuccessful to take the matter to court to get their seats in MBBS course.
After unearthing the scandal the kingpin namely Sajjad Budal S/o Ab. Ahad R/o Lar Mohore was arrested earlier by Crime Branch and released on bail under court orders, whereas the other accused employees of BOPEE were arrested along with one of the touts namely Reyaz Ahmad S/o Abdul Aziz R/o Haba Kadal Srinagar. Investigation of the case is in progress and more arrests are expected. |
