Five militants and a policeman were killed in three shootouts in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara and Shopian districts, police said today.
A policeman and a militant were killed in a fierce gunfight in Kupwara. Police cordoned off the Zachaldara- Handwara area following specific information about the presence of militants.
As the policemen zeroed in, the militants hiding in a house fired and in the ensuing firefight, an ultra and a cop were killed, a police spokesman added.
Two more militants were killed in retaliatory fire during another shootout at Alaypore village in Shopian this morning.
In the third gunfight that began last night, two militants were killed at Mandigam village in Kupwara today. |
