| Division of votes led to formation of govt. by BJP: Congress | | | New Delhi | Jan 21 In a signal to the CPI(M) that its strategy not to have an alliance or front involving Congress was flawed, the party on Monday reminded the Marxists that division of secular forces has led to formation of government by BJP. Party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said it will always be the Congress' endeavour that all secular forces stay together. She, however, say whether Samajwadi Party could also be included in such an arrangement. Her comment came in the backdrop of the CPI(M) on Sunday spelling out plans to forge a long-term third alternative to fight the BJP and Congress. She was replying to queries on whether the development shows that the Left no longer has confidence on Congress. The CPI(M) had said the Left parties have the responsibility to initiate the process of formation of a non-Congress, non-BJP alternative and the CPI(M) was in discussion with some of the parties and forces to achieve this goal. In worrying signals for the UPA barely a year ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the CPI(M)'s draft political resolution for the ensuing 19th Party Congress makes it clear that it will not enter into any alliance or united front with the Congress. |
