| Chaman ridicules Congress for contradictory stand | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 21 Alleging that the separate status of Jammu and Kashmir is being used to cripple rights of the people, create wedge between the state and the rest of the country as also regional disparities under communal and other consideration’, the former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Prof C L Gupta ridiculed the contradictory stand being taken by the Congress party about the appointment of Delimitation Commission. Addressing party activists at Hattli in Kathua area today Prof Gupta said that even after about sixty years now the people of Jammu had been subjugated by depriving them of their political due and in this connection, he pointed out, that the voters strength as also the geographical area of Jammu was much bigger than that of Kashmir but still this region has been given just 37 seats against 46 in Kashmir. ‘This injustice is the cause of many maladies in the state’, he remarked. Ridiculing the contradictory stand by the Congress members about the appointment of Delimitation Commission to have fresh delimitation of assembly constituencies, the BJP leader said there was no such bar in the rest of the country for having review of the constituencies. He said Congress was more guilty on this account than any other party as Congress in the state was directly or indirectly in power with two third majority right from 1953 to 1975 but still it did nothing to remove the regional disparities. As far as NC and PDP are concerned, Prof Singh said that ‘their constituencies had always been Kashmir Valley and no ruling Kashmir leader diseased with communal outlook would ever dare to remove the domination of Kashmir over Jammu’. The BJP leader asked the people to create strong public opinion against all those responsible for political slavery of Jammu and Ladakh regions. |
