Jammu | Jan 23
The January 26th this year will be observed as black day in Jammu to highlight the problems of the refugees of 1947,1965 and 1971.This was stated by the President of the west Pak refugees (J&K) Labha Ram Gandhi in a press conference here today.
He raised allegations against the Government for cheating the displaced people and refugees of 1947.He said that besides being given assurances by the Government for allotment of 12 acres of Khuski or eight acres of Aabi agricultural land under cabinet order 578 1954 to the displaced people f 1947 a majority of families were not provided land.He said that the Govt. turned deaf ears and refused to listen to the problems being faced by the refugees and also no compensation was given by the Govt.against loss of life ,home etc due to which they had to face several problems. He said that there are around three lakh west pok refugees who even after 60 years are not been even provided with the state subjects as a result of which the children of those refugees are not being permitted to study in schools and colleges.
Labha Ram said that the united refugee front staged several protest and dharnas to appeal to the Government to settle the refugee problems once for all .He said that pursuant to their protest the state Government constituted a committe to look into the demands and problems of the refugees but the representatives of J&K West Pakistan refugees were not invited in the central committee meetings .He said that it is not understood that how the officials of central Govt.would access the actual loss of life and property of the refugees without listening to the representatives of the displaced people and refugees.
He said that the joint front of all J&K refugees and west pak refugees of 1947 will lodge a strong protest against the dictatorial attitude of the State and Central Government on jan 26 in support of the demands of west pak refugees.
