Former MLA Gurez and state secretary Congress (I) Raja Faqir Mohammed Khan today blamed Pakistan government for depriving sixteen lakh Shina community of Gilgit of their fundamental rights since 1948 besides accusing the former of forceful occupation of Gilgit even when the people desired to remain as a part of Indian Union.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Raja Faqir Mohammed Khan said that Pak authorities are imposing its puppet rulers to rule over sixteen lakh Shina communities residing in Gilgit since 1948, thereby depriving them from their fundamental rights.
He urged government of India to discuss the matter of Shina population living in Pak ruled Gilgit with Pakistan authorities during the on going peace process while asking Pakistan government not to play with the emotions of the community by depriving them from their fundamental rights any more.
"The Shina Community residing in Gilgit area of Pakistan has desired to live with Indian Part of Kashmir during the 1948 plebiscite, so Pakistan should allow them to live according to their choice", Khan said.
He further stated that Shina community has been granted a Scheduled Tribe Status in the Constitution but in Kangan area of the Kashmir, the community has been deprived from this privilege, therefore requested the state government to include their community members of Kangan in the list of ST.
Showing satisfaction of their community members living in Indian part of Kashmir, Khan said that they have better living conditions as par of their members living in Gilgit area of Pakistan.
Demanding a high level probe in March 31, 2004 fire incident in which a BDO block office was gutted in Gurez, he alleged that this was a deliberate attempt to burn the office by some unscrupulous elements who had made embezzlement of one crore which was clear from the view that only bill books got burned in the incident and not service book records of the employees.
He also demanding rehabilitation for the victims of 2005 snow storm in which a complete village of Zowdara, Gurez got dislocated and after that the people of that area are living in Kangan besides demanded opening of Slik route between Gurez and Gilgit.
