Gupta said that the infective endocarditic used to fatal in the pre antibiotic era but even today documented infective. Endocarditic carries a mortality of 20-25% and a serious morbidity in 50 to 60% patients. Infective endocarditic invariably involves the damaged/deformed heart structure/valves due to congenital defect in the heart since birth or in children due to acquired Rheumatic heart disease or due to repair surgery carried out on the heart or its structure or rarely cardiac catheterization. Infective endocarditic prophylaxis is thus recommended to all such patients with preexisting cardiac disease whenever they under go any procedure in the oral, dental, Gastrointestinal tract, Genitourinary tract, reparatory tract etc. In order to reduce the morbidity and mortality it is the responsibility, it is the responsibility of the treating pediatrician physician to advise patients and parents regarding prevention of endocarditic and to maintain a good orodental hygiene and a health care system supported by regular dental visits remain vital because the cumulative exposure to bacteremia is significantly greater from every day procedure (tooth brushing and irrigation) than when compared with that of dental procedures. |
