| Opposition a politically bankrupt lot: Karra | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 24 Minister for Finance, Mr. Tariq Hameed Karra has accused the opposition of tearing the sanctity of the House and demolishing the parliamentary practices by holding the Assembly to ransom. While replying the discussion on the Budget, the Finance Minister, pointing to the agitating opposition members, accused them of being a politically bankrupt lot who had torn the sanctity of the House into pieces and demolished the established parliamentary practices. He handed over copy of his speech to the Speaker for purposes of record. "If they (opposition members) are bent upon exhibiting their traditional uncivilized behaviour in the House and disrupt the proceedings, I will hand over my written reply to the Hon'ble Speaker purely for purposes of record", the Minister said, adding that before doing so he would, however, like to complete the unfinished 'chicken story' narrated by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Abdur Rahim Rather in the House the other day. Karra said that the father, referred to by Mr. Rather in his story, had told the son that he was the headmaster of the school for several years from where he had learnt mathematics. The father, he added, told him that if he had proved that 1+1 was equal to 3, he, as headmaster of the school, had himself established that 2+2 was equal to 5. The Finance Minister said that by 'chicken story' if Mr. Rather was trying to prove that he (Mr. Karra) had fudged figures then the part 'B' of the story proved that the accuser was himself a master fabricator of figures. |
