| NC approaches governor seeking action against tainted ministers | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 25 Raising the issue of political corruption at higher places members of J&K National Conference Parliamentary party through the leader of the opposition AR Rather on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Governor Lt Gen (Retd) SK Sinha urging upon him to make the Government see its obstinacy and concede a very legitimate democratic demand of removing tainted ministers from the council of ministers. In their memorandum to the governor the NC legislators had stated that the findings of the Kundal committee report are so startling that the State Government had no recourse but to accept it and forward it to the State Vigilance Commission and Crime Branch for further investigation and action as far as the findings against the Officers involved in the scam are concerned. The memorandum adds further, “But the Government, again under coalition pressure and other political considerations, has desisted to initiate such action against the two Ministers who are the fountain heads and real culprits of the scam. Leader of the opposition AR Rather further added in the memorandum that until the tainted ministers are sitting pretty in their powerful cabinet berths, no meaningful action can be taken even against the accused at lower rungs; because the Department which has to deal with the cases, will always feel the weight of their Ministerial clout and influence. In its memorandum the NC legislators had also expressed their worst feats saying that,” It is also obvious that the tainted Minister's presence in the cabinet will make it easy for them and their protégés to even tamper with the records and evidence. In view of this, our Legislature party has been, in the true spirit of our democratic tradition, demanding that it is absolutely necessary that, in the interest of fair play and transparency, the two Ministers involved in the scam, should be immediately divested of their Ministerial berths to make a credible investigation possible. National conference leaders in their memorandum also submitted to the state governor that they are pursuing the matter in both Houses of the Legislature. And even few other opposition members are supporting our demand but the ruling coalition continues in its obstinacy - even suspending and bodily removing our Hon'ble Members from the Houses and indulging in other bullying tactics. |
