| Qazi throws mud on Karra | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 25 Caught in a situation of devil and deep sea, the Peoples Democratic Party has gone rudderless on how to handle the situation arising out of the naming of their two Ministers in Forest scam. The Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal today circulated to media in Srinagar copies of the Kundal report which clearly mentions that the Minister was aware of the doubtful developments in the department. However, the indication is about the then Forest Minister (now Finance Minister) Tariq Hameed Karra who is also from the Peoples Democratic Party. Qazi told reporters, "you read the report and find out where is my name". In fact what Qazi apparently tried to do was to shift blame to Qara and steer himself clear. The party is reported to have taken a strong view of Qazi's this act. However, sources close to Qazi told EARLY TIMES that he has fallen alone in the whole mess as even party was not coming to his rescue. Qazi also appealed to the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to ask the State Accountability Commission to probe into the assests amassed by all political leaders in the state since 1996. "I appeal to the Chief Minister to order a probe by the State Accounability Commission into the assets amassed by all political leaders in the state since 1996 so that people know who all have used corrupt practices to amass wealth", Qazi said. He said he was ready to face such a probe first. Refuting the charge by the opposition National Conference that he (Qazi) and his predecessor and present finance minister Tariq Hameed Karra were involved in the forest scam, Qazi said there was no word or sentence against any minister in the Kundal commission's report, already tabled in the state assembly. The report of Kundal commission probing the allegations was tabled in the state assembly after the NC stalled the proceedings of the house on the issue for several days last week. Asked why the NC was demanding action against them when there was nothing in the report, Qazi said it was due to frustration on the part of the party becasuse the present PDP-Congress coalition regime had performed better than the NC in terms of development and political stability in the state during past five years. Asserting that the state government is ready for a debate on the Kundal report, the minister said the opposition NC is not allowing the legislature to function because they know there was nothing in the report against the ministers. |
