Dogri play Bawa Jitto staged

Internationally acclaimed Dogri Play Bawa Jitto directed by Balwant Thakur staged here today at CTM auditorium Kathua in connection with Republic Day Celebrations.
The programme was organized by J&K Police ( Kathua) in collaboration with Chiba Textiles Mills Limited and Industrial assosciation, Kathua. President chinab Textiles Limited, SK Khandelia was the chief guest on the occasion.
Sr. Superintendent Police Kathua, JP Singh while speaking on the occasion said that culture helps in promoting the sense of brotherhood and plays a major role in the integration of the country. He further stated that this programme has been organized with the blessings of Director General of J&K Police according to whom that such events are very essential for the upliftment of the civil society.
The play Bawa Jitto based on a 15th century real tale of the age old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords. Due to constant and persistent pressures of the relatives, with a piece of land as bone of contention, Bawa Jitto, a hard working farm-less farmer is forced to leave his native place village Aghar. Accompanied by his nine year old daughter Gauri, he takes shelter in the house of a friend Rollu in Shamachak, a village nearby. The efforts of Rollu result in a land grant from landlord in Shamachak and one-fourth of the produce is fixed as land revenue. The hard work put in by Bawa Jitto results into turning the barren land into prolific treasure. Which makes the landlord to back-out of his word and take away the whole crop. Helpless Jitto, unable to endure injustice, kills himself. The agony becomes boundless when his daughter Gauri immolated herself on the pyre of her father.
Arvind Anand who played the role of Bawa Jitto has been performing various roles in plays of Natrang.,. Juhi Singh as Bua Gauri not only made every one to cry but impressed everyone with her powerful acting. Among others who participated in the paly included Dimple Sharma, Gaurav Trayal, Gaurav Jamwal and Mohit Sharma, Rahul Singh, Mayank Bakshi and Shabana.
