| Hubbub on Floor returns today | | No calm in assembly likely, NC ups ante | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 27 When the legislative assembly meets tomorrow after a short break from the noise and chaos, things are not expected to assume the order of semblance despite many efforts to subdue the National Conference protest. The entire opposition is fuming and is in no mood to allow a smooth business of the assembly even as the Speaker had to adjourn the House for few days to cool down tempers. The National Conference has been demanding a discussion on the Kundal committee report which had probed irregularities in the Forest department. Even though, before adjournment of House on Thursday, the Government had expressed its consent to hold a discussion on the report but now the opposition as sacking for the two Ministers named in the probe. Finace Minister Tariq Hameed Karra and Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal are under fire from the opposition though the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister have several times assured that no direct involvement of the Ministers have been found in the probe. Interestingly, even a cursory appraisal of the Kundal report reveals that the Minister have been indicted at least 24 times in the entire probe looking into various aspects of irregularities in the Forest department. It is true that no Minister has been directly named but in every scandal and sub-scandal the head of the investigation panel BR Kundal wherever finds fault says that the case had been approved by the Minister. Meanwhile, Doda MLA Abdul Majid Wani, who according to the report Rs 28 lakh excess payment from the State Forest Corporation over a period of eight years, claims that he is ready to resign if even a penny is proved against him. Wani says that he will never contest any election in future if anything concluded by the Kundal report is proved actually. |
