| Women water workers highlights problems | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 28 Government schools water workers union today held a protest rally in support of their demands and criticsed the state government for being a mute spectator to their sufferings. Nearly hundred women folk today held a protest rally and after passing through different places of the city, staged a sit- in near Shalimar Chowk where various leaders of the union addressed the protestors. Criticizing harsh attitude of the government towards their genuine demands, the aggrieved women folk disclosed that they have been deprived by the state government of their basic rights by paying only Rs.10 to Rs.20 per month as wages from last 40-50 years. They further said that at least twenty thousand water workers are engaged in different governments schools in the Jammu region and are being paid Rs.20 each per month while the it is mandatory for government to pay rupees 66 per day to a casual worker under SRO 157. Moreover, they demanded pension for those women water workers who have crossed 60 years of age and sought recruitment of new workers at their places. They also demanded the state government to pay attention to their sufferings so that they would not face more miseries in future. |
